Armando

The VIP of the week is Armando. His favorite number is 9, flower is the sunflower and sport is soccer. He likes Denny's, trucks, adn Christmas. His friend isTaylor. Have a great week Armando!

This week in math we are beginning our unit on geometry. This week we will be learning about geometric solids, geometric shapes, types of lines and circles. The kids will have fun learning all these new things!

In reading we are starting The Garden of Abdul Gasazi. The Garden of Abdul Gasazi is a fun fantasy about a boy who is dogsitting for a neighbor. Unfortunately the dog, Fritz, runs into an off limits garden owned by Magician Abdul Gasazi. As puninshment Gasazi turns Fritz into a duck...or does he. The kids will have to decide if this story really happened to Alan or was it just a dream. Check out this review from Reading Rainbow.

In writing we are beginning to make our books! The kids have written their sports paragraphs (which turned out really well) and now we are copying them into our rough draft books. These books will be out on our desks at Open House later in the year.

We are continuing with suffixes and prefixes in grammar. We won't be doing our science this week because many of us need to do some catch-up work.

Jacob

The VIP of the week is Jacob. Jabob likes the number 88, the color pink, and monkeys. He enjoys baseball, ESPN, and roses. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Nowak. His friends are Lenny, Raymond, Joey, Christian, Noah, and Grant. Have a great week Jacob!

This week in math we are working on the concept of probability. Probability deals with outcomes. This week we will be talking about when outcomes are certain or impossible, and likely or unlikely. The kids usually like this unit because they will get to create their own experiment and possible outcomes.

In reading we are continuing with Raising Dragons. Check out this site to learn more about the story and the author. Thanks to the story, we've been able to learn more about responsiblity and taking care of something.

In writing, we will be using our brains to help our neighbors fix their paragraphs. Sharing brains is the best way to modify, correct, and perfect our writing.

In grammar are beginning to learn about prefixes and suffixes. This week our focus is on prefixes. Prefixes are parts of words that are stuck to the front of words to modify and change the meaning of the word. The kids know a lot of prefixes and hopefully they will soon learn more! If you want to challenge yourself you can go to this game. Be careful- these prefixes and suffixes are very hard!

In science we will begin learning about energy and matter. We will be doing many fun experiments. I can't wait to share them with the kids!
