In grammar we are working on finding the main idea in a paragraph. Finding the main idea is a difficult thing for the kids to do. So we are doing our best to find the correct answers.

We are not doing science this week because we are devoting the extra time to finishing our books. Hopefully next week we can get back on track and learn all about light.

The most exciting news in our class is that we have a new student teacher, Mr. Bibb. Mr. Bibb will be here every Thursday. At first he will just be observing and later he will take a more active role in the classroom. Be sure to ask your child all about him.

Unfortunately the dog, Fritz, runs into an off limits garden owned by Magician Abdul Gasazi. As puninshment Gasazi turns Fritz into a duck...or does he. The kids will have to decide if this story really happened to Alan or was it just a dream. Check out this review from Reading Rainbow.

In writing we are beginning to make our books! The kids have written their sports paragraphs (which turned out really well) and now we are copying them into our rough draft books. These books will be out on our desks at Open House later in the year.

We are continuing with suffixes and prefixes in grammar. We won't be doing our science this week because many of us need to do some catch-up work.

In writing, we will be using our brains to help our neighbors fix their paragraphs. Sharing brains is the best way to modify, correct, and perfect our writing.

In grammar are beginning to learn about prefixes and suffixes. This week our focus is on prefixes. Prefixes are parts of words that are stuck to the front of words to modify and change the meaning of the word. The kids know a lot of prefixes and hopefully they will soon learn more! If you want to challenge yourself you can go to this game. Be careful- these prefixes and suffixes are very hard!

In science we will begin learning about energy and matter. We will be doing many fun experiments. I can't wait to share them with the kids!

In American Histoy we will be finishing our lesson about how a bill becomes a law. Last week we divided into different groups. In reading we do not have a new story. We are taking the second Language Arts Benchmark Exam. This exam will test what we have learned in reading and writing so far this year. It also tests us on skills we haven't learned.

In writing we began a new style called personal narrative. In personal narratives, you don't describe on things, instead you describe a sequence of events. We are writing about a time we played a sport. We've enjoyed hearing other kids reading their paragraphs to us. We find them very interesting.
